The End of Paros
Here I come to the end of a wonderful phase of this trip, really the first major phase of my trip. On Friday and Saturday we had open studio for class so we could work on any unfinished paintings from the past two weeks. It was nice to relax in the studio and work on the paintings. Saturday evening after class we quickly hung all of our paintings along with the oil painting class and the photography class for a little exhibition. All of the work took up most of the wall space
Traveling, Sketching and Painting
Today was our last day of traveling and painting but boy did we make a day of it. In the morning we packed our bags and headed to a church near Naoussa called Ioannis to paint. This was an area that we hadn't been to and even Irene, who lives in Paros, hadn't been there! I got to paint on some rocks that the church was built into with a gorgeous view of the sea. Boats were sailing around, people were swimming and we were painting. Around one we all went for a swim right there
Greek Life
No this isn't about being in a sorority or fraternity, it is about my real life Greek life in Greece! I decided not to blog everyday because 1. It would get boring telling stories of everything I do here and 2. Because I don't have enough time to sit down and write everyday! Since my last post, I have had 4 days of class (wow I didn't realize I hadn't written in so long!) and one day break. We had class on Saturday because we moved the boat trip from Saturday to Friday. We we
Adventures in Paradise
Today was an exceptional day! It was the day of our fabulous boat tour around the island of Antiparos and it couldn't have been more perfect! The school organized this trip for the students and teachers to go on. To start out the day we had to drive to the little port village to get on our private boat, the only people on this trip were with the school! And the captain of course! We cruised around some awesome extremely not populated islands of volcanic rock, a tiny wonderful
Greek Food
I have been eating totally authentic all in Greek food since I arrived here and I am totally loving it! The other day Michelle and I went to this amazing restaurant called Mira and it was by the sea. Everything was amazing! We had an appetizer of this fried feta with honey and sesame seeds all over it, can I just say we were in heaven! My main dish was mousaka. Michelle reminded me that was what Tula had for lunch when she was younger in My Big Fat Greek Wedding! The other li
Gorgeous Greece
I've been here in Parikia on the island of Paros in Greece for three days now and it has been amazing! A week ago today I stepped on the plane to Iceland but that seems so long ago. I am really loving it here! I have made some friends at the school I'm going to, the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts! My watercolor class is small, there are only 5 of us. One person from Venezuela, two natives of Greece, one from India and then me. I've also made friends with people from the othe
Airport Purgatory: A Journey to Greece
It has been and extremely long journey to get to where I am now, the ferry to Paros (relief, happiness, yay!) and I will tell you why I'm so happy to be at this point. My flight from Iceland went to London, if I had known I would be going to Greece right after Iceland I would have booked my flights differently. Unfortunately when I booked my flight to England I wasn't sure if I would be going to my watercolor class. The whole flight to London I was thinking about the 2 hours
Iceland is Cool...Literally
I have enjoyed Iceland, I have been taking it easy because I am pretty jet lagged and am running on very little sleep. What I didn't fully think through was the fact that it would be COLD (cold in June?! Unacceptable)! As I type this in the Kex Hostel my fingers are going numb because well this isn't Greece. I definitely packed my bag dreaming about the three weeks I will spend in Greece, about the sparkling ocean, painting outside all day, all in the warm embrace of the sun.
A Moment on Selfies
PSA: I will be posting a lot of selfies. Why you ask? Well I could post a lot of pictures with nobody in them or I could post pictures of my smiling face. I will let you decide. Just kidding, I'm going to do it anyway. It is the natural consequence of solo traveling. **Unfortunately after writing this I discovered I cannot post pictures to my blog from my iPad or phone...so this is just if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook. Dang! I love posting pictures on my blog, urggg
Begining of a Journey
And so my journey begins. My flight from the Baltimore airport was delayed 3 hours so that wasn't too fun but I finally made it to Iceland! I am currently sitting in a bus waiting to go to Reykjavik! I only have a couple of days here but I am very excited! As the airplane was descending I could only think about the movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Have y'all seen it? Well spoiler alert, he goes to Iceland. From the airplane window Iceland looked similar to how the movi
